Odds and ends from around baseball...

  • The Padres avoided arbitration with LHP Clayton Richard. According to this tweet, he was the last arb-eligible player not to sign.
  • Ken Rosenthal examines how the Michael Bourn market unfolded. It amuses me that Bourn's locker is between McDade and Fernando Nieve. Rosenthal:
Bourn’s defense, in fact, was so outstanding, he ranked third among center fielders in Fangraphs.com’s version of wins above replacement (WAR), which incorporates offense, defensive and baserunning. Bourn finished behind only Mike Trout and Andrew McCutchen
  • The Marlins "landed" Casey Kotchman on a minor-league deal.
  • Trades and deals have Tribe feeling positive, Indians.com — This quote in particular is why I will always prefer to keep Shaptonetti rather than have the Dolans head a replacement search:
"We realized at the end of last year we needed to make adjustments," said general manager Chris Antonetti. "We were not good enough. We needed to improve."
  • Bastian's Sunday notebook
  • Bastian profiles Mike Aviles
  • Matt Garza cut his throwing session short. BUY LOW!
