LGT Sunday Extravaganza: Opening Day Edition

Jed Jacobsohn

Today regular season baseball will be played, though the Indians won't be involved. Tomorrow, regular season will be played, but alas, the Indians won't be involved. But on Tuesday, REGULAR SEASON BASEBALL WILL BE PLAYED, AND THE INDIANS WILL BE INVOLVED!!1!

So even though the Indians won't be playing until Tuesday, there will be lots of juicy and delicious content on Let's Go Tribe between now and the first pitch of the Tribe season (not counting the ceremonial first pitch by Rush's Geddy Lee.

This evening I'll be posting something title "What to Expect from LGT," or a variant of that. In that post I'll be unveiling what you'll be seeing on this site once the regular season gets underway. Some things will remain, while others will be a little different. Tomorrow morning will be devoted to a rather special series of posts, one that I can't spoil right now, other than to say that you don't want to miss checking the site between 9-11 AM EST. Tomorrow evening will be devoted to the LGT community; I'm going to re-post a couple of oldies but goodies; the original Introductions post, and the Google Maps post, which will both serve as an introduction to those who have been here a while, as well as allow those just getting started in their LGT experience to introduce themselves to the community. Tuesday morning and afternoon will be spent talking about that evening's game, as well as general season talk.

So with all that being said, let's get to the news of the day.

The good news from this game:

  • Everyone that is projected to be in Tuesday's Opening Day (Night) Lineup was healthy and playing, including Asdrubal Cabrera, who was back in action after missing time with a sore back.
  • Brett Myers, in his last Spring Training tuneup, finally looked good. Though it could just be the opposing batters just trying to get the game over with.
  • Four of the key relievers in the bullpen also made their final Spring Training appearances, and pitched scoreless innings. Chris Perez lowered his ERA to 7.20, and Cody Allen lowered his ST ERA to 6.48, but those get wiped out and forgotten now.
  • NO INJURIES. Well, not exactly. Frank Herrmann had Tommy John surgery this spring, which I think is a minor blow to the organization depth. But besides that, the Indians will go into Toronto with just about everyone healthy. The only player on the 15-day DL to start the season will be Jason Giambi, and he'll be healthy just in time for the Indians to go back to a 12-pitcher/13-position player roster.
  • Spring Training is finally over with. It's been a long Spring Training thanks to the World Baseball Classic, and everyone, from the baseball players to the coaching staff to the fans, is ready for real baseball to begin, and the next time the Indians take the field, they'll be playing regular season baseball.

In not-yet news, the Indians still will need to DFA David Huff before the roster is officially set, as he is out of options. Thus far, Ezequiel Carrera has not been traded or claimed on waivers (or even outrighted, though I don't that's probable). We'll know what happens to Carrera by April 3rd, as by then it will have been 10 days since Carrera was DFAd.
