This felt a lot like, well, pretty much all of the games from last season. Which makes it difficult to look on the bright side. But I am here to make a valiant attempt:
1) Yes, the Tribe could only manage 2 hits total off of Matt Moore and the Rays bullpen last night. But both of those hits were by Michael Bourn, which means the lead-off man actually had a decent game. I kept waiting for his third hit so that I could post about the completion of the Bourn Trilogy, but sadly that never happened. I wasn't sure whether Bourn would live up to expectations after his big contract but so far he's giving every indication that he's going to.
2) Bryan Shaw has looked pretty great in both of his stints so far, and seems to be a top-notch addition to the Bullpen. My main worry with the 'pen this year is that they'll lean too hard on Joe Smith, Vinnie Pestano, and Chris Perez and run them into the ground. It'd be nice if there were other guys we could count on.
3) Last year there were some definite concerns floating around about Michael Brantley's arm strength, but in the past couple games I've seen him make some great throws from left. Last night he cut down Jose Lobaton from the corner when Lobaton tried to take second. It was not even close.
Tonight, Trevor Bauer makes his Tribe debut. One day you will tell your children you were watching. Or at least that's the plan.
