An off-day turns into an old fashioned doubleheader with the Yankees. The first game starts at 12:05 PM with the second game starting shortly after the first game ends (MLB guesstimate is 3:35 PM). At the conclusion of the nightcap, they will head to Philadelphia for two games to complete their interleague series with the Phillies. [Note: all stats except for records are through Saturday's games due to the need for an early post]

Since the rainouts, the Yankees have been on fire. Jeter, Teixeira, A-Rod and Granderson are all still on the DL, but Granderson might be activated this week. Girardi is doing a heck of a job considering they have 11 guys on the DL right now. And it isn't clear to me exactly how they are in first place. They are middle of the pack in most offensive categories, a tad higher in the pitching department and average in fielding.

Since we last saw them, Youkilis and Cervelli got hurt and Nunez has not recovered from his injury, landing on the DL this week. LGFT Nix is now holding down short and Nelson has taken over at third. Austin Romine should get one of the starts at catcher. The lineup has been solid with the only holes being Stewart, Nix and Stewart. Hafner has looked healthy, cranking six homers already. But Cano and Wells are the main cogs this year.

Ivan Nova was potentially going to be activated for this doubleheader, but the last update still did not have him listed. Phelps has taken his spot in the rotation for the time being. He has given up six earned runs in 11.2 innings as a starter thus far. He has never pitched against the Indians. Vidal Nuno was originally a 48th round draft pick of the Tribe but was released in March 2011. He only has one career MLB appearance on April 29 against the Astros.

Rivera has 15 saves already this year, extending his MLB record. He hasn't been striking out as many, but his WHIP is fantastic. He has been good but not extraordinary against us. In 41 games, a 2-2 record, 29 saves, and a 8.6 K/9 in 57.1 innings. Robertson has also been very goof this year as the main set-up guy for Rivera. He has excellent numbers in only 10.2 innings against us. Logan has been effective. Even back to his White Sox days, he has been good against the Indians. He has a 3.86 ERA in 21 innings and 9.4 K/9.

I can't ever recall seeing an injury list this extensive. What an amazing job by Girardi keeping this team in contention with that many guys injured. And to top it off, the Yankees should have plenty of trade bait once these players start getting healthy. They won't be able to keep them all on the 25 or 40 man rosters.
