The Phillies have been very mediocre this year and the numbers reflect that. They are allowing almost a full run more per game and can't get on base very well. The once potent offense has eroded quite a bit. With Halladay going down and Hamels looking human, the power trio is just down to Phifer. Although Kendrick has also been effective so far. Defensively they are near the top in double plays turned and fielding percentage but many of the defenders do not have great range.

This lineup is not doing much other than Utley. Michael Young has a high OBP but is truly a singles hitter at this point. Howard is not back to his dominant self and the Revere experiment has failed as Victorino is still playing well in Boston (injury pending). Ruiz looks rusty coming off his suspension and Delmon has been ok since coming off the DL. John Mayberry might get a look this series.

Pettibone has adequately filled in for John Lannan. However, his K rate is very low which means the Indians will either ramp that up, or fill in the stat sheet. He threw a lot of pitches against the Giants in his last start. He has pitched better than Hamels, which is kind of shocking. The Cy Young contender (no wins yet tho) is off to a rough start. His WHIP is the highest since 2009 with the walks concerning. His K rate is down 1.5 from last year as well. He was hit pretty hard by the Tribe in his only outing against them, but it was back in 2007, his sophomore season.

Papelbon has been excellent in 2013, except that his K rate is way down from his Boston years. He only has 16 appearances against the Tribe, but has been excellent in them, 1.69 ERA, 12.4 K/9, 0.563 WHIP. Adams continues to be very solid in his ninth MLB season. He has not been effective us in 7 appearances, 6.43 ERA, 2.000 WHIP and 9.0 K/9. Bastardo has never faced the Tribe. Phillippe Aumont has been wild, but ok so far and Jeremy Horst has been hit pretty good.
On the Shelf
- SP John Lannan (strained quadriceps tendon left knee) - 15-day DL, possible early June
- SP Roy Halladay (right shoulder) - 15-day DL, no timetable until after surgery
Lannan was scheduled to be the #5 starter, Jonathon Pettibone has taken his spot for now. Halladay went one more start after his last outing against the Indians before finally giving in to whatever is ailing in his shoulder.
