MLB Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7, Minnesota Twins 6 (10 Innings)

Mark Reynolds and Ryan Raburn - Jason Miller

The drive for 5 and drive for .500 completed in one fell swing.

I'm not used to these tense games; the past three weeks, you could count on one hand the times either the Indians or the opposition went to their closer in the ninth inning.

  • Until the Indians came back, the key point in this game was top of the seventh inning. Masterson started the inning, gave up a run, and was pulled for...Cody Allen? Allen then gave up a two-run homer to Chris Parmelee that gave the Twins the lead.
  • But thankfully that has been relegated to a footnote (or in this base an early bullet point). The Indians tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Jason Kipnis hit a sharp grounder to second with the bases loaded. The Twins might have turned a double play, but when Brian Dozier bobbled the ball, that ended any threat of that happening. Kipnis was out at first, but the Indians had tied the game at six.
  • Rich Hill faced the Twins' best hitters in the ninth inning, striking out Joe Mauer, getting Justin Morneau to pop out weakly to third base, and striking out Ryan Doumit (who was hitting right-handed) to end the inning.
  • Chris Perez's tenth was somewhat stressful. He allowed a one-out single, then walked pinch-hitter Josh Willingham with two outs. Wilkin Ramirez then what at first appeared to a bloop single, but thankfully he got enough bat on the ball to get it to Ryan Raburn in right field.
  • In the bottom of the inning Mike Aviles led off with a single. Then the newest Indian, Ezequiel Carrera bunted Aviles to second (more on why he was hitting in the full recap). Drew Stubbs then sent all 20,000 fans home happy with a game-winning hit off the left field fence.
  • The Indians are now at .500. That may not seem like much, but think of where they were five days ago.
