Cleveland Indians Sunday Morning News: May 5, 2013

OH... - Jason Miller

Lots of news, mostly good (for a change).

It's been one week since we've had to talk about an Indians loss. I certainly don't miss it.

Yesterday was Scott Kazmir's first win in three seasons, and the culmination of quite a comeback. Last year Kazmir didn't pitch in a major-league organization, and had to pitch well in Winter Ball to even get an NRI.

Posnanski: Would MLB, like EPL, be better without playoffs? - Joe Posnanski- NBC Sports

I do think regular season chamionships need to be emphasized more, as a division crown is quite an accomplishment for an organization. But the playoffs are not going anywhere. This probably deserves a longer treatment.

Today's Class Clip: Kiss Me Kate (1953)

Cole Porter meets William Shakespeare...what's not to like?

The musical (and the movie) is about a staging of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, and the backstage antics that have a striking resemblance to the events of the play. Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson are the leads in the play, a couple that has recently divorced. This scene takes place before the show, when Keel has Grayson and Cole Porter (played by Ron Randell) over to his apartment to hear the score of the play. Ann Miller arrives to perform a number as an audition slash inducement to Grayson to take the part.

Most of the original Cole Porter lyrics were toned down for the film, but you still get the intent when you watch it on screen.

During this scene you'll notice several object thrown towards the viewer; this is because Kiss Me Kate was filmed in 3D during the brief 3D craze in the early 1950s. And you'll obviously notice Ann Miller.
