MLB Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7, Oakland Athletics 3

Mark Reynolds, leisurely strolling around the bases. - Jason Miller

The tried and true method of yacks and whiffs holds true, as four homers plus a solid Ubaldo outing put the Indians on the road to victory.

Ubaldo wasn't as good as he was last weekend in Kansas City, but it didn't matter, as the offense was back tonight.

  • Like on Saturday, the Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on solo homers. First Jason Kipnis cleared the left field wall, then Asdrubal Cabrera left the yard (the first of two on the night).
  • After Nick Swisher popped out on the first pitch of his at-bat, Jarrod Parker hit Mark Reynolds high on the shoulder, frighteningly close to hitting him in the head. Reynolds shrugged it off and trotted to first, and both benches were warned. Later in the game, Reynolds would get his revenge, blasting a home run four-fifths the way up the bleachers off Parker, and taking a couple of well-deserved seconds to admire his handiwork. I'm not usually a fan of admiring one's homers, but you can't fault Reynolds for wanting to rub it in after what happened in his first at-bat.
  • Ubaldo Jimenez didn't have great command, but he was still missing bats. He struck out eight Oakland hitters, leaving the game up 4-2 in the sixth, but with the bases loaded. Nick Hagadone, who had just been called up to take Vinnie Pestano's spot on the roster, struck out Lance Reddick on three pitches. That was Oakland's opportunity to get back into the game.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians loaded the bases themselves, and Jason Giambi came through with a key two-out, two-run single after an impressive at-bat. That made the score 6-2, and ended any further drama.
