#Indians select contract of RHP Matt Langwell from Triple-A Columbus; option LHP Scott Barnes to Columbus.— MLBRosterMoves (@MLBRosterMoves) June 1, 2013
Barnes allowed 5 runs in the 3rd inning last night, the 25-year old lefty had pitched 6.2 scoreless innings over his previous 4 appearances and has good strikeout and walk rates; he will likely be back with the Tribe at some point this month.
Langwell (Baseball-Reference page here) was drafted by the Indians in the 11th round in 2008, he's has never appeared in the big leagues before. The 27-year-old righty has appeared in 20 games for Columbus this year, with an ERA of 2.30, 7.6 K/9, 4.0 BB/9 (!), and only 1 home run allowed in 27.1 innings. His K/9 was a very healthy 10.6 in 2012, when he allowed 0 home runs in 69 innings split between Columbus and Akron.
This scouting report from last January at Indians Baseball Insider says his fastball is said to top out in the low-90s and he throws a decent changeup and slider.
