MLB Final Score/Recap: LA Angels 7, Cleveland Indians 2

CJ Wilson must like pitching from the stretch because he puts a lot of runners on. - Jason Miller

Ugly turns uglier as the Indians drop their sixth game in a row.

August 10, 2013

Angels 7, Indians 2

Tonight's game started out with a very surprising series of events:
An Indians pitcher retired the first batter of the game
It was Ubaldo Jimenez
An Indians pitcher retired the second batter of the game
It was Ubaldo Jimenez
An Indians pitcher retired the third batter of the game
It was U--ou get the drift

The Indians bats had more success than the Angel ones in the bottom of the inning—CJ Wilson struggled. But, the Indians once again failed to get a run in. Wilson's struggles continued in the second. This time, the Indians scored a run. But they should have done better, leaving the bases loaded.

Through 3 innings, the Indians stranded 7 runners and the game was tied 1-1.

The Angels tacked on two more in the 5th on a pair of sac flies. It's quite possible that Ubaldo would have got out of the inning unscathed had he not thrown a Grant Green bunt into the stands. Michael Bourn finally knocked out Wilson in the 6th. His RBI single made the score 3-2 Angels. But Ubaldo kept the Indians in the game, as three run in six inning should be good enough on most nights for a win.

But that hit never came, and in the eighth inning, the Tribe defense made sure there would no comeback. With a runner on and nobody out, Mark Trumbo hit a tailor-made double play ball to Asdrubal Cabrera, but he booted in. That began one of the ugliest innings of the season, as the Angels would score four runs and bat around before the frame finally ended. 3 of the 4 runs were earned because you can't assume a double play, but realistically the Indians should have gone to the bottom of the eighth trailing by only one run.

The Indians went meekly in the eighth and ninth, and the only reason why the Saturday night crowd stuck around was because Rock 'N Blast was being held after the game.
