MLB Final Score: Atlanta Braves 3, Cleveland Indians 1

What? We got swept? - Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Once again, a fine pitching performance is wasted.

  • The Indians have been swept in a series in which they've given up a total of 8 runs. And in no game in this series did the Indians give up more than three runs.
  • You couldn't ask for much more from Ubaldo Jimenez. He made one mistake, but unfortunately it came with two men on. He struck out 10 batters, didn't walk anyone, and went seven innings. This is the type of start the Indians hoped they would be getting from Jimenez when they traded for him in 2011, and this season they've occasionally gotten them.
  • But when you average one run a game for the series, there's little chance of winning. The Indians managed a total of seven hits against Kris Medlen, David Carpenter, and Craig Kimbrel. Granted, the staff the Indians faced is formidable, but of late they've struggled against everyone.
  • The only offense came when Lonnie Chisenhall hit a pinch-hit solo homer in the eighth inning. The Indians did get the tying run on later in the inning, but Carlos Santana hit a weak grounder to end the threat. The Indians went in order in the ninth.
  • With the Tigers coming back to stun the A's this afternoon, the Indians will remain four back for the last Wild Card, but if Baltimore holds on to beat Boston tonight they'll leapfrog the Indians in the standings.
  • I'll talk more about this game and other Tribe topics, as I'll be a guest on this week's Let's Talk Tribe. Look for it tomorrow morning.
