Indians News & Links 2/17/14: From Cabrera to Lindor

Let's take 2014 to remember the good times with Asdrubal - Hannah Foslien

Spring camp continues on while a handful of Tribe players try to ignore the swirling speculation about arbitration, extensions, and trades.

Did you all get that Valentine's Day/Weekend stuff out of the way? Good. Here's some baseball news:

Indians news

No contract extension talks in works for Cabrera | Boston Globe (Nick Cafardo) - Buried in Cafardo's post about the top ten managers in the MLB (Tito ranks #3) is a tidbit about the lack of talks between Asdrubal Cabrera and the Indians. Cafardo says hey may be a Yankees target in the offseason. Hoynsie says Cabrera hasn't let trade rumors bother him, and is hoping for a stronger performance in 2014.

Lindor's arrival time is nearing | Did The Tribe Win Last Night? (Mike Brandyberry) - DTTWLN profiles Francisco Lindor, the man expected to replace Cabrera as the Tribe's opening day SS in 2015. Lindor compares his on-field style to Roberto Alomar. If the dude lives up to even half that hype, we're in for a treat.

Contract talks not getting to Masterson | Indians.com (Jordan Bastian) - With an arbitration hearing looming, Justin Masterson refuses to let the drama affect his preparation for the season. Hard not to like Masterson as a person. Also hard to see a contract extension happening before the season.

Ryan Raburn a likely candidate for regression | Indians Baseball Insider (Michael Hattery) - Few of us expect Raburn to repeat what was probably a fluke season, but IBI details the likely extent of his decrease in production for 2014. On a more hopeful note, IBI also has a poll that examines 11 of the Tribe's possible breakout candidates in 2014. My money's on Bauer, both because of his pedigree and my desire to see a fellow Bruin dominate as a Tribesman.

Around the league

Mariners and Orioles join Jays in Ubaldo sweepstake | CBS Sports (Jon Heyman) - As more teams join the fray, particularly ones with deep pockets, the chances of Ubaldo returning are slimmer and slimmer. All three teams are said to be in on Ervin Santana as well.

Braves extend Craig Kimbrel | Atlanta Journal-Constitution (David O'Brien) - Four years, $42 million with a fifth year option. I once got like, ten Craig Kimbrel cards in a box of 2011 Topps packs. Seems worth the money. The Braves aren't done with their extension spree yet, as they look to lock up Andrelton Simmons next.

Ryan Dempster to sit out 2014 | WEEI.com (Alex Speier) - The strange decision will likely lead the Red Sox to put him on the restricted list, but apparently the Sox aren't looking toward Ervin Santana or Ubaldo Jiminez as a replacement.
