After winning it all two seasons ago, the Giants had a poor year last year. They are off to a much better start so far in 2014 but just finished a 2-4 road trip in San Diego and Colorado, with a lot of their bullpen seeing a lot of innings.
Their hitting is about league average, but they are third in the NL in home runs so far. The pitching staff used to be a huge advantage, but now is back to league average. They have given up a lot of hits, but walked very few, to balance it out. Their defense is in the top third in the NL. On a lighter note, they are one Brandon short of a complete infield. And Hicks and Crawford need zoo nicknames to go with the Panda and Giraffe on the corners.

Pagan has been dinged up with a sore knee, so he may sit a game or two of this series. I'd expect to see Blanco out there if he sits. Sandoval has started cold, but Belt already has 7 homers and is anchoring the lineup right now. Morse leads the team in RBI and helps offset Posey's slow start. The bench has no power really, except for Sanchez, who will likely only sub in for Posey.

We miss the both Bumgarner and Cain, meaning we get the final three of the rotation and their only leftie as well. Hudson has been fantastic in recovering from that devastating ankle injury, but both Lincecum and Vogelsong appear to be very hittable.
Romo has locked down the closer spot and Lopez is definitely a LOOGY as his 4.0 innings have spanned 10 games. Casilla is his usual tough self and the rest of the bullpen is pretty decent. We unfortunately miss old friend David Huff, as he just went on the DL on 4/22. This also allowed the Giants to get another outfielder on the roster with Pagan's knee issue.
On the Shelf
- 2B Marco Scutaro [15 day DL], no timetable for return
- RP David Huff [15 day DL], possible May return
