Carlos Carrasco's 2013 debut was a disaster. He gave up 7 earned runs, and was ejected and later suspended for (allegedly) throwing at a batter. That set the stage for a very bad major-league season, although he pitched very well during his time in Columbus. He made the rotation out of spring training, but if he struggles this time, the Indians cannot option him to the minors.
The Twins are countering with their best young pitcher. The Twins spent a lot of money in free agency because (a) their rotation was awful in 2013 and (b) aside from Gibson, there was nobody in the minors that would be able to step into the rotation. Gibson faced the Indians last year, and pitched fairly well (5.1 IP, 3 ER) although that was the exception in his first major-league season (6.53 ERA).
This is the same lineup from yesterday, with one slight change: Carlos Santana is DHing, while Lonnie Chisenhall is playing third base. Santana will very likely be behind the plate tomorrow, so that's probably why he's getting a semi-day off. And it's good to see Lonnie getting a second straight start after his good showing yesterday. He might be the one who's going to be optioned out when Michael Bourn returns, but at least he can make the decision difficult for the Indians.
A couple changes in the Minnesota lineup: LGFT (barely) Jason Kubel is in right field, replacing Oswaldo Arcia, whose legs looked frozen yesterday while chasing Lonnie Chisenhall's double. And Josmil Pinto is replacing Kurt Suzuki behind the plate.
