Indians add pair of incredible names via trades with Dodgers and Orioles

Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

There are no pictures in the database for Duke von Schamann or Torsten Boss, so above is a photo of Uwe von Schamann, who was Boss of kicking field goals for the 1984 Miami Dolphins.

The Indians made their second trade in two days this afternoon, acquiring Torsten Boss from the Orioles in exchange for Preston Guilmet, after acquiring Duke von Schamann from the Dodgers in exchange for Colt Hynes yesterday. Before getting into the specifics of those new members of the farm system, I want to take a moment to reflect upon how incredible those names are....

(still reflecting...)

(almost there...)

Okay.

Boss is a 23-year-old position player. He was an 8th-round pick in 2012 and played third base that year, before being moved to second base last season, which he spent in Single-A, where he posted a line of .238/.333/.358. It doesn't look like Jason Kipnis or Carlos Santana need to be to worried about him taking their job away. Boss has been assigned to High-A Carolina. Guilmet is probably a better prospect, but the Tribe designated him for assignment last week to make room on the 40-man roster, and probably figured he wouldn't clear waivers, so they might as well get something for him.

von Schamann is a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher. He was a 15th-round pick in 2012 and started 12 games in SIngle-A that year, before splitting his time in 2013 between High-A and Double-A. His overall numbers last year included a 4.67 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 131 innings. He struck out a modest 6.9 batters per 9 innings, and walked 2.6 per 9.He has been assigned to Double-A Akron, where he'll join the RubberDucks rotation.
