The Less Exciting Things
- Manny Machado has been suspended 5-games for his immature bat toss against Oakland. He will appeal, even though he has apologized.
- Lonnie Chiz-in-hall really is now. His bat from Monday night is headed to Cooperstown. It actually seems a bit irresponsible, as Lonnie only has one other bat, apparently. But following his 9-RBI game, the bat company will probably be thrilled to send him a dozen or two. Per last night's radio broadcast, Lonnie Baseball has been turning down most of the media requests to interview him.
- Zach McAllister will rejoin the Indians in Boston. But he won't be on the active roster; TJ House will make another start.
Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Tuesday that Cliff Lee (elbow) is "very close to picking up a ball."
- Joey Votto was activated off the DL by the Reds.
- You'll need to be an insider to read it, but here's an article titled "Verlander's disturbing trends". Sounds enjoyable.
- The Tampa Bay Rays were shut out for their 3rd straight game, this time by Cy Young favorite Adam Wainwright.
- Grant Hockin, the 61st overall pick of the 2014 draft, has signed with the Indians, per Chris Cotillo. "Hockin was thought as a tough sign away from UCLA. Good work by agent Mike Rodriguez of MVP Sports Group," says Cotillo. Seems to me like the good w: ork was done by the Indians, if he was a tough sign away from UCLA.
- The Cubs released Jose Veras, who pitched 22 games for the lovely 2009 Indians. I found this exchange fairly awesome:
@ChrisCotillo Lol I bet the Tigers are mildly interested.

Allen shows knack for ninth-inning effectiveness | indians.com: News
Dating back to May 30, each of Cody Allen's five appearances have included no hits allowed and a save collected. That represents the longest such streak in Indians history, trailing only Jose Mesa, who had six no-hit saves in six straight outings in September of 1995.
