Having yet again failed to take advantage of numerous offensive opportunities last night, the Tribe turns to the 24yo Cody Anderson this afternoon. Anderson has been a revelation since joining the rotation last month, going at least 6.2 IP in all four of his starts and conceding just three earned runs in 30.1 IP. However, his strikeout rate is just 3.26 K/9 and it is simply impossible for him to sustain a .165 BABIP and 98.8% LOB for very much longer. Let's hope that the inevitable regression comes later rather than sooner.
The offense will be facing the 36yo Kyle Lohse, who is in the last year of his three-year, $33MM deal with the Brewers. After two solid seasons he has labored to a 6.17 ERA in 19 games this year, in part because of problems with the long ball. His 21 homers given up ranks tied for fourth in the whole of MLB, so the Tribe (and Brandon Moss in particular) will surely be going for the jugular today.
After last night's horrific 0-4, 3 SO, GDP performance, thankfully Michael Bourn is being replaced by David Murphy today, with Michael Brantley sliding over to CF.
