Terry Francona plans to talk to Team USA manager Jim Leyland about Andrew Miller's usage in the WBC | Cleveland.com
Miller will be part of Team USA and was used heavily last season by the Tribe. Count me a little worried too. From Zack Meisel:
Terry Francona's heart might be thumping at a rapid pace, too.
"We fully support him and we're proud of him and our heart is in our throat," Francona said about Miller, one of four Tribe big-leaguers participating in the tournament.
The Indians have chatted with Miller about his usage in the WBC. He ramped up his throwing program a bit earlier than normal to prepare for it. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway has conversed with Jeff Jones, who occupies the same role for Team USA. Francona figures he'll speak at some point with Jim Leyland, the team's manager.
"If you want him to handle somebody, I need to do it myself," Francona said, "and I have a great relationship with Jim."
Sky cloudy, message clear: Be proud of 2016, but strive for more in 2017 | Cleveland.com
Francona’s annual spring training speech was a good one.
Tribe won’t rush spring process with Corey Kluber | Indians.com
Francona and the Indians are slowing Kluber down just a bit and are in no huge rush to name in the Opening Day starter.
Around the League
- Clayton Kershaw to tie Dodgers mark with seventh straight Opening Day start.
- Yankees adding left-hander Jon Niese.
- Alex Gordon could play some center field for Royals.
- Watching batting practice might become more convenient for home fans. Sounds good to me.
