Akron RubberDucks 4, Altoona Curve 3
Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 18-21
Only three players on Akron had hits yesterday, but thankfully, all three had multi-hit games, which helped the RubberDucks score two runs in the ninth inning to take the lead and give just enough cushion for the bullpen to hold it.
Joe Sever, Yu-Cheng Chang and Bobby Bradley were the perpetrators, but it was Bradley who had the biggest game, going 3-3 at the plate with a walk and he somehow managed to steal his second base of the season as well.
Their offense supported the efforts of starting pitcher Luis Lugo, who was superb, going 6.1 innings while giving up just two runs. Lugo walked two and struck out three overall, but didn’t factor into the decision.
Lynchburg Hillcats 4, Potomac Nationals 3 (F/10)
Box Score · Hillcats improve to 24-19
Down 3-2 heading into the ninth inning, Lynchburg converted a lead-off triple into a run on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Calica. They then walked off in the bottom of the 10th when Ka’ai Tom slashed a double to left field.
Tom, Sicnarf Loopstok and Claudio Bautista all had multi-hit games for the Hillcats. Both of Loopstok’s hits were doubles, one of them scoring two runs.
Starting pitcher Brock Hartson was excellent, giving up one run on four hits spread over six innings. He also walked two and struck out two. Paul Hendrix blew the lead by giving up two runs in 0.2 innings but Alsis Herrera tossed 3.1 scoreless innings to give the Hillcats a chance to both tie the game and win it.
Lake County Captains 3, Lansing Lugnuts 10
Box Score · Captains fall to 16-26
Brady Aiken was not aided by his defense yesterday, but he also couldn’t get out of the jams the defense put him in, as he gave up 10 runs (2 earned) over 4.1 innings. An error from Mitch Longo set up an eight-run second inning for Lansing and another error from Luke Wakamatsu helped an extra run score in the fifth after Aiken had been pulled with two runners on base.
Aiken’s line wasn’t pretty, giving up 10 hits, walking two and striking out three.
On the offensive side of things, Emmanuel Tapia and Trenton Brooks both had multi-hit games while Conner Capel blasted his fourth home run of the season.
The Triple-A Columbus Clippers had a scheduled day off.
