With the regular season just a few weeks away, the Cleveland Indians made some more spring training roster cuts, including optioning top prospect Francisco Mejia to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.

The 22-year-old went 8-for-19 in 11 games this spring, with two home runs and two doubles. He’ll be back at some point in 2018, but for now he’ll get some seasoning in Triple-A where he can work on his receiving behind the plate and continue refining his bat.
Abe Almonte being optioned isn’t a surprise, but it’s a clear sign that he’s no longer part of the outfield picture. So far it’s down to Rajai Davis and Melvin Upton Jr. for the Indians’ fifth outfielder spot.
