This Morning - appearing with Kenny Roda on ESPN Radio

15

Starting around 10 a.m. or shortly thereafter, I'll be in the studio with Kenny Roda on WKNR 850 AM. I'll be talking about the Indians' season-opening free-fall, possibly taking some calls with Kenny. Should be streaming live from the link above.

I love all sports but baseball has always been my personal favorite. From the endless amounts of stats, it's history and it's signs that spring is here (or around the corner) gives baseball it's unique stature. I decided to create montages or videos dedicated to the past of all 30 major league teams. To some it may be a history lesson and to others it may bring back memories. This video features the Cleveland Indians. http://diamondcrazies.blogspot.com

Dolan and two execs talk about Indians economics

Dolan: When we purchased the team, we anticipated a lot of things. What we didn't anticipate was the severity of the downturn in the local economy. That's one of the big reasons why we had 27,000 full season tickets eight, nine years ago and we have 12,000 now. We look at the rest of Major League Baseball now and say, "Welcome to our world.

Scout Thinks Crowe is Fastest in MLB

gonna try my own coding skills here since blockquoting doesn't work any more: Guess not Here we go, old fashioned style... __________________________________________________________________________ [W]e asked a group of scouts to help us compile the five fastest men in the big leagues. Here's our top five: 4. Trevor Crowe (Indians): "You'd have a tough time convincing me he's not No. 1," said one scout. __________________________________________________________________________ Also, in this column: __________________________________________________________________________ Cliff Lee. The 2008 Cy Young winner is a free agent in seven months. But he had an ugly spring (46 hits in 21 2/3 innings), and he was a mess again Monday (5 IP, 10 H, 6 R). "He was awful this spring, but I chalked it up to spring training," said one scout. "He was better than that Monday, but not a whole lot. The common thread was, everything was middle-middle, and high all the time. It didn't matter what he threw. It was up, and it was out over the plate." __________________________________________________________________________

In today's Washington Post, Blake Gopnik reviews new installations of art at Nationals Park. Sorry about the earlier botched FanShot.

Keith Woolner, BP Chat

In what I think is free content, Keith Woolner does a pretty long chat at BP and talks a fair bit about his work in Cleveland.

A 22-game winner with Florida in 2005, Willis has won 22 games the past three seasons, landed in the minors last season and opens this season on the disabled list suffering from an anxiety disorder. Kyle Kendrick is another pitcher who didn’t make it though for a more routine reason: ineffectiveness. His demotion was a surprise because he had been expected to win the No. 5 starting job after he won 21 games and lost 13 for Philadelphia the past two seasons. With one day left in August last year and 26 games left in the season, Kendrick was tied with Cole Hamels and Jamie Moyer as the Phillies’ leading winners with 11 victories.

Self-hating blogger Murray Chass, who can't figure out why nobody wants to pay him to write about baseball anymore. Note the adept use of statistics.
