Brewers' Weeks removed from NLDS roster

Sports Network | October 05, 2008

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers removed second baseman Rickie Weeks from their National League Division Series roster with a sprained left knee.

Weeks, 26, suffered the injury running out a ground ball in Saturday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia. He landed awkwardly while stepping on first base and fell to the ground.

He has been replaced with shortstop Alcides Escobar.

By rule, Weeks would not be eligible to play if the Brewers were to advance to the next round. However, he would be eligible to return to the roster if the Brewers reach the World Series.

Milwaukee trails the best-of-five series 2-1 heading into Sunday's contest.

Weeks batted .234 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 129 regular-season games this season. He failed to register a hit in four postseason at-bats.
