Lee to Start Season on DL

According to ESPN, Lee will start the season on the DL now.  Apparently that throwing session didn't go so great.  There is no real word on how long it'll be until he is ready for the bigs again.  So that moves Carmona up to the Majors.

As much as I can see giving the job to Carmona straight up, I wish that Miller and some other prospects would be given a chance to compete. Update [2007-3-11 12:16:46 by mjmarble]: The PD is now reporting it too, with Soloff calling it due to "the volume of spring training" whatever that means. It also says he'll be back mid to late April.

Re: Lee to Start Season on DL
This is not the worst news the Tribe could have had.  If I look at the calendar correctly, he should be replaced by Carmona(?) for 2-4 starts.  Not the end of the world.  I know it must be tempting to bring up Miller but I think they will save the spot on the 40 and Carmona's psyche by keeping him in the rotation.  I always thought CC could have used a month or two at AAA to work on the finer points.  As I said in one of my other posts, there could be some surprising results. :)

Re: Lee to Start Season on DL
I'm sure they will keep their options open, but it's tough to give more weight to even a brilliant spring by Miller when you consider what a short period of time it is, the level of competition presented (minor leaguers and indifferent major leaguers), and the fact that Carmona has proven he can get major league hitters out.

Agreed!
Hello everyone,

I agree with indianinkslinger about rushing CC back in 2001 when Manuel wanted him to skip AAA - if CC had had some AAA time, he might have established himself into an ace performance-wise sooner.

That's why I also believe that Miller should start at AAA, even if he's only there for half-a-season, just to make sure his acclimation to the Majors is as smooth as it can possibly be, and in my opinion, exposing him to the nearest ML competition (AAA) would make sure as best as one can that Miller has minimal adjustments to make once he reaches the Majors.

Plus, as mkwng said, Carmona has shown he can get ML hitters out, and since he was anointed the #1 starter at Buffalo, ahead of Miller, you would think that Carmona would be first in line unless he was totally struggling, which currently he is not.

Just my 2 cents.  :-)
