Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
This is getting ridiculous:
So now there are at least two games that need to be made up later this season. Again, the Mariners don't come back to Cleveland, so it looks like the games, if they can be made up, will be played on a common off-day doubleheader.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
Aren't they a little hasty with these postponements? Cant they cancel the first one and wait to see if conditions improve for the second?

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
since they are travelling rom the West Coast, which is required by player's agreement to be an off day when traveling from Pacific time zone to Eastern time zone.
Indians may have to grovel to get agreement for that. If the MLB could require Seattle to come to Cleveland in both May and June, that could be leverage to schedule a DH instead.
However, they may hold 1 game in abeyance until the end of the season to see if it matters. However, if 3 or 4 games are postponed, I bet some of the games are played in Seattle. It would be unrealistic to make up more than 2 games after the final Sunday of the season. Even 1 is a problem if you hope to succeed in the postseason.
Otherwise, the most creative solution is to play the series during the All-Star break, damn all baseball tradition, players' agreements, and Fox.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
Whats one more trip that Seattle should have to make and come back to Cleveland gonna hurt? Maybe Ichiro can get sunburned during a make up game in the summer while our catcher limps around even more-so.
I say that Seattle is forced to come back right in the middle of July and right sometime in the middle of the game, say that the sun is to bright for his outfielders to see the ball and demand that the game be stopped.
(By the way, I'm not serious, just getting irritated with no baseball due to snow of all things.)

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
I think they're trying to maximize the chance of getting in at least one game, by capitalizing on the peak hours expected in terms of temperature and precipitation. By 1:00, the temperature is expected to be near its peak (35-36 degrees) while precipitation drops to a 10% chance.
It basically stays that way from 1:00 to 8:00, but you have to remember, they don't just have to play, they have to get the field ready -- and you'd like to give whatever ice crystals are on the grass a little chance to melt. The field will be barely above freezing before noon, and just a few degrees warmer in the early afternoon.
By 4:00, hopefully everything will be good to go. I don't know if they can play two, but I'm sure they're going to try.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
Indians.com now has CC starting Game 1 tomorrow with presumably Westbrook starting on regular rest in the nightcap. That would suggest Sowers and Byrd pitching on regular rest Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, with Carmona making his first start Thursday. I'm guessing CC would open the series with Chicago Friday on short rest to keep the rotation in order, with Westbrook and Sowers closing out the Series with their regular turns.
Looking a bit further ahead, that alignment gives CC a start on getaway day in NY (I believe his day-game record is very good) and also a start in the short two-game series in Minnesota.
This might be the best possible solution - assuming CC is comfortable going on short rest Friday.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
Cloudy with scattered snow showers mainly during the morning. High 37F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 30%.
It looks to me like the whole series will be obliterated by the weather

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
August 16 seems a likely date. We'll be ending a homestand and about to leave for Tampa. They'll be en route from Minnesota to Chicago, and their Minnesota game on the 15th is scheduled early (1:35).
From our point of view, that actually would not be a bad date for a double-header, other than the late flight to Tampa, since we have off days on the 13th and 20th as well. (Seven scheduled off-days in the last seven weeks ... seems unusual.)
They could conceivably fly to Cleveland for Sept 24. True, they'd be going LA (Sunday) to Cle (Monday) to Sea (Tuesday), but the Sunday game is early (12:35) and the Tuesday game is late (7:05). That mitigates at least a little bit.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
BTW, for any makeups played in Seattle, does anyone know if we would be the "home" team for those games, as far as batting in the bottom half and so forth.
I would assume so, but...

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
Sunday the 20th, we're hosting Cincinnati in the afternoon, then go to KC on the 22nd.
Monday the 11th is a little more difficult, splitting a road trip, but the 10th is an afternoon game in Cincy, so only an hour or so to get back.
In both cases, Seattle leaves the West Coast (Seattle on the 20th, San Diego on the 10th) to head east (Tampa on the 22nd, Cubs on the 12th).
Looking over the schedules, it doesn't even seem like its going to be easy to bring Seattle in on a travel day when we're home against someone else. (I think we did something like that about 5 years ago with Chicago and Minnesota). There seems to be a ridiculous amount of schedule matchup between Seattle and the Tribe. When we're home, they're home a lot, so we can't sneak them in on a road trip. (This is based on a somewhat thorough looking over of the schedule, perhaps this is more common than I would think).
In short, they better play those two games tommorow.

On the plus side, the weather forecast suggests that with an extraordinary effort by the grounds crew, we'll have a window to play both games tomorrow and the one on Tuesday.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
It's pretty clearly Anaheim is not going to transfer a series to Cleveland.
It may be "unlikely" that Shapiro will agree to these terms, but it is obviously something he is considering. A lot will depend on the weather
situation and forecast at 8am Monday.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
So Cleveland would be the "home team" in Anaheim
and get the home team split of the walk-up gate for the transferred series.
Unfortunately, this would also set a current precedent for moving the Seattle make-up games to Seattle.
We'll see Monday at 8am how "unlikely" this scenario is.

The bottom line though is we just need to start/continue winning ballgames....and then no one will remember the scheduling quirks. Again though, this division is so tight, every little edge helps.

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
in cold Cleveland and risk more injuries?
Would a trip to sunny California act as a "mental health" trip for the Indians players?
Also, they would have the assurance of playing rather than working out inside the stadium if the weather remains cold. The temperature is supposed to increase to the 40s Tues-Thur but there is rain in the forecast.

How much of an advantage will we get as the...
Hello everyone,
I understand that there isn't much we can do in regards to the weather, but referring to the series with Anaheim (or Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim if you prefer :-), how much of an advantage will we have as the home team?
Yes, we'll bat last and get the home team revenue (nice that we'll get that revenue to make up for our lost "home" dates,) but the Angels will be more used to the stadium, both in terms of knowing the stadium and knowing the backdrop, which will allow them to pick up the ball better than we will, at least initially, so I'm not sure how much of an advantage we'll have as the "home team."
Granted, it's the right thing to do, since these were supposed to be Indians' home games, and the Angels did lose to the A's today 2-1, so that might have slowed them down a bit, but still, I hope we can keep and build on the momentum we had had in the first week of the season. We can't avoid a prolonged slump or swoon from the wacky weather and situation that occurred over this weekend, not with the way the AL Central is predicted to shape up.
Just my 2 cents. :-)

Re: Sunday's Doubleheader Postponed
If Papelbon really could have turned his stuff into a starting role, that Red Sox staff could have been terrifying, because he just made the Rangers look stupid.
The Sosa experiment just seems like a huge waste of time.
And I only saw the last couple of innings, because I was busy watching the welcome return of The Sopranos and Entourage.
Super squall!

David Riske gave up the go-ahead 3-run HR!
Speaking of other games, after Riske saved his first game for the Royals the other day, he blew the save today - his reason - he thought Pudge would be bunting with two on, no outs, with the Tigers down 2-0 in the Top of the 9th in KC, so he threw a down-the-middle-of-the-plate meatball to Pudge, who deposited into the LF seats for a 3-run HR.
Oops - I guess he forgot that the road team usually goes for the win rather than the tie, huh?
Anyway, you can read more about the game and what happened here.

Kouzmanoff is the man.
Their lineup is stacked with ex-Indians. I could see their 3-6 slottes staffed by Giles, Bard, Kouzmanoff, and Branyan at some point this season.
