Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?

Jeremy Sowers' line on Friday for AAA Buffalo against Syracuse:

9 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K

Threw 113 pitches (80 strikes), with a 10-8 GB-FB breakdown. All six hits against were singles.

Of course, prior to today's game, Sowers had a 5.82 ERA at Buffalo... but you knew that already and I'm just filling space.

Re: Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?
His K's actually make me question what the hell was going on. How does Jeremy Sowers strikeout 8 guys? Did it all just suddenly click?

Hopefully, I guess.

Re: Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?
Seriously, 8 Ks? That jumped out at me. Hope he's got it figured out.

I seen that too - hopefully, something has
clicked; granted, it's SSS, but I don't think even last year when he had a 1.39 ERA in 15 AAA starts did he strike out that many in a AAA game.

I certainly hope it can lead to a positive roll for Sowers, something Carl Willis says Sowers needs to get on, just to help his own confidence, which has been shaken according to this Indians.com article.

Just my 2 cents.  :-)

Re: Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?
Hopefully this is a beta version of Sowers 3.0

Version 1.0 started in Kinston and with minor revisions, mostly involving the "diminishing K-rate" algorithm, made it clear to a superb half-season in the bigs. Version 2.0 was released too soon, and was recalled due to bugs in the control module. Version 3.0 is rumored to be released soon, with enhanced whiff capability.

Seriously, great outing by Sowers. One might even say dramatic considering his pretty consistently crappy record this year, not only in Cleveland but in Buffalo as well. What's really surprising is its not really a return to form - striking out the side in one inning and getting 2 out of 3 swinging late in the game is not the Jeremy we're familiar with.

Going to be a lot of attention on his next few starts...

Re: Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?
This is something I hadn't considered for a while; I'd mostly written Jeremy off for the season. But hey, if he can get it back together, he'll still be way ahead of schedule.

I would temper this discussion with the fact that Syracuse isn't good. But they do have like the greatest promotion EVER.

Re: Jeremy Sowers: Signs of Life?
I believe this is the same team that once had Carl Monday Night at the ballpark. Or one of the other Jays affiliates.

I think Carl Monday night was Dunedin.

Check out the video ... Sowers striking out batter after batter ... it's like a dream ...

Looking over the box score, I know Wayne
Lydon has always had trouble controlling the strike zone, even while in the Mets' system, and he struck out twice against Sowers.  That's why Lydon never panned out as a top-of-the-order leadoff guy - he had great speed and stolen base ability, but could never get to 1B consistently enough.  However, I believe that was the only guy Sowers struck out more than once; I'm not familiar with how the other SkyChiefs are in terms of strikeout tendencies.

While this is SSS, it's encouraging; I know I'll keep an eye on his next few starts.  If Buffalo isn't off between now and then, and there's no makeup games, Sowers' next start should be on Wednesday, July 25.

Just my 2 cents.  :-)
