We knew it would happen eventually. Today, Mickey Callaway was officially announced as the manager of the New York Mets in a press conference with his new team.
Callaway, who served as the Cleveland Indians pitching coach for the last five seasons, started by thanking the Indians organization. Specifically, he wanted to thank the pitchers who he helped mold into one of the best groups in baseball.

Under Callaway’s tutelage, Corey Kluber became a household name, winning a Cy Young (potentially two) since Mickey took over pitch coaching duties in 2013. He helped the “headcase” Carlos Carrasco stay on the right track to being a true No. 2 starter, and he helped create the one of the best overall pitching staffs in major league history in his last season with the Indians.
By all accounts, this staff grew up under Mickey Callaway because of the tremendous amount of work he put into the organization. So it’s no surprise that it was hard for him to tell everyone he was leaving, and I imagine it wasn’t easy to say goodbye.
If you enjoy pain, you can watch his the entire Mets presser below via Parascope below, and probably somewhere less bad when the actual video gets hosted somewhere.
