The Cleveland Indians re-signed Melky Cabrera this afternoon and sent him to Triple-A Columbus.

I don’t understand it either. Melky did not play well earlier this season while covering for various injuries. Now, with Brandon Guyer likely returning to the disabled list after hitting a ball into his own knee, Melky may be poised to return to the Major League roster soon.
I am speculating here, but maybe the Indians want him as some kind of bizarre insurance policy for the outfield in Triple-A with Greg Allen and possibly Yandy Diaz and Francisco Mejia on the way soon?
It’s unfortunate to note that we probably did this to ourselves:
The number of people who have seriously suggested re-signing Melky and his .536 OPS over the last 12 hours is stunning.

We will provide more information on this story as it pertains to Melky Cabrera’s return to the Indians roster, which is to say that I hope we have nothing else to say.
